MACKERRICHER STATE PARK

project date: 2012 | by susan jurasz

Perched on the rugged Northern California Coastline, near Mendocino is a boardwalk and overlook at McKerricher State Park. It is windy here, and on a good day, bathed in sunshine and sea spray; it smells like the ocean and salty seashells. In the 1890s, a long pier extended from the shore to large sailing ships. Today, it is a place to sit and watch seabirds and whales.

Sea Reach developed a custom design for these signs - long waves with bull kelp wrapped around the base. This playful design is a representation of the surrounding landscape, made possible by the kinds of materials used to fabricate the exhibits: aluminum, high pressure laminate, and shrinkable rubber tubing.
