L.A. COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS
1 document with 20 pages

project date: 2000 | by susan jurasz

The Los Angeles County Fair is among the world's largest annual celebrations of its kind. Although founded in the early 1900s, the fairgrounds complex, today called Fairplex, never employed a permanent wayfinding system to guide visitors through what has evolved into a complicated maze of attractions and events. Fairplex contracted Sea Reach to plan, design, fabricate, and install a wayfinding system for September's Fair.

Since many of the site's buildings are excellent examples of the Art Deco style prevalent in the early 1930s, this motif strongly influenced our design efforts. The "family" of information, directional and guide signs, which provide visitors with orientation and clear, distinct destination points all employ Art Deco features.

Colorful "finger signs" point visitors to attractions and events.
