Just outside Astoria, Oregon in a relatively small area (seven acres), a loop trail meanders through strategically planted tree plots. Along this trail you can witness the result of different forest management styles. What does a mixed forest look like versus a single-species stand? Thinned forests versus unmanaged? How do naturally reseeded areas compare with ones that are planted? How do different species interact? Visitors can clearly evaluate the differences in density, tree health, sunlight penetration, and other aspects as they walk through this demonstration forest.
Sea Reach custom designed exhibits meant to guide visitors in observing the unique characteristics of each section of the forest. To the untrained eye the differences may be subtle, but after this interpretive tour, you will never look at the forest without seeing the trees.
