National Scenic Byways may acquire the designation of an All-American Road when they have features that do not exist elsewhere in the United States and are tourist destinations unto themselves. As of 2010, there are 120 National Scenic Byways - thirty-one of which are All-American Roads - and the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is one of them. The route meanders through the vast rural landscapes of Chief Joseph's homeland, deep canyons, past glacial lakes, and the rugged Eagle Cap Wilderness.
Sea Reach worked on four phases of the interpretive efforts for this Byway: interpretive plan, exhibit development, and two final design, fabrication and installation phases.
